Why a website?
- What information do you want to share?
- This will give you an idea of the website content.
- Who is your target audience?
- This will give you an idea on look, features, and usability.
Name your website
- Find your website name - go to godaddy.com and find a domain name
- Make the name simple. Shorter the better. No crazy spelling or punctuation.
- You want a name you can end in .COM. .ORG is good for non-profits, but you will still want to lock down the .COM name too.
Content
- Make an outline of the website. The content. The pages. Flesh out the idea.
- This will help you figure out the different website sections and pages you want to make.
- This should help you plan for the website navigation. How a user will get to a specific page.
- With an understanding of the content you want to share and how you want to share it, this will help you design a look that works and complements what is on the website.
Look
- What websites do you like? What websites do you like in the same industry / area?
- Make a webpage layout. Map out the webpage. Make some boxes, move them around till it looks right.
